Embassy of Timor-Leste Accompanies Educational Delegation on Official Working Mission to Sejong City

SEJONG CITY, 8 SEPTEMBER 2026 — On 8 September 2026, the Embassy of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste to the Republic of Korea facilitated an official high-level mission to Sejong City, Republic of Korea, comprising His Excellency Mr. António de Sá Benevides, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, His Excellency Mr. Domingos Lemos, Secretary of State for Secondary Education and Technical Schools, and the accompanying national delegation, accompanied by Mr. António Santa, Third Secretary of the Embassy.

During their official mission to Sejong City, Ambassador António de Sá Benevides and Secretary of State Domingos Lemos convened a bilateral meeting with Director-General NanYoung Lee of the International Education Planning Bureau, Ministry of Education of the Republic of Korea. The meeting provided a constructive forum to exchange policy perspectives and best practices concerning secondary education, as well as technical and vocational education and training (TVET), while exploring strategic pathways to expand institutional educational cooperation between the two nations.

As part of the official programme, Secretary of State Domingos Lemos and the delegation conducted an on-site study visit to Dong-Ah Meister High School, examining first-hand the institution’s specialized technical curricula, modern laboratory facilities, and practical instructional materials. The delegation closely observed hands-on engineering workshops undertaken by the students, noting the school’s exemplary linkage between practical pedagogy and industrial workforce placement.

The mission provided an invaluable opportunity to gain strategic insights from the Republic of Korea’s advanced vocational education framework, reaffirming Timor-Leste’s commitment to technical human resource development and the deepening of bilateral relations and people-to-people ties between Timor-Leste and the Republic of Korea.

이번 방문 일정 중 안토니우 드 사 베네비데스 대사와 도밍고스 레모스 국무비서는 대한민국 교육부 이난영 국제교육기획관과 양자 회담을 갖고, 중등교육 및 직업기술교육훈련(TVET) 정책에 관한 심도 있는 정책 협의와 함께 양국 간 실질적인 교육 협력 확대를 위한 구체적 방안을 논의하였습니다.

이어 대표단은 산학협력 선도 직업교육기관인 동아마이스터고등학교를 방문하여 실무 중심 교육과정과 첨단 실습 현장을 시찰하고 교육 시설을 참관하였습니다. 대표단은 산업 맞춤형 교육 현장과 학생들이 직접 제작한 엔지니어링 실습 과제 및 모형 프로젝트를 면밀히 관찰하며 깊은 관심을 표명하였습니다.

이번 공식 방문은 대한민국의 우수한 선진 직업기술교육 모델을 벤치마킹하여 동티모르의 기술 인재 양성 역량을 강화하고, 양국 간 교육 협력 및 우호적 인적 교류 기반을 공고히 하는 뜻깊은 이정표가 되었습니다.
