Timor-Leste and Chung-Ang University Discuss Prospects for Higher Education Cooperation
SEOUL, REPUBLIC OF KOREA — 15 September 2026 — H.E. António de Sá Benevides, Ambassador of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste to the Republic of Korea, paid an official visit to Chung-Ang University in Seoul on 15 September 2026, where he was received by Mr. Park Se-hyun, President of Chung-Ang University.

The meeting provided an opportunity for both sides to exchange views on prospects for strengthening cooperation between Timor-Leste and Chung-Ang University, particularly in the areas of higher education and human resource development.
Among the matters discussed was the possibility of establishing scholarship opportunities for Timorese students to pursue higher education at Chung-Ang University. Such opportunities could contribute to strengthening educational exchanges and supporting the development of skilled human resources in Timor-Leste.

The discussions also covered other potential areas of academic and institutional cooperation, including opportunities to promote exchanges and closer engagement between relevant institutions.
In this context, Ambassador Benevides and President Park discussed the prospective visit of a high-level Timorese delegation to Chung-Ang University in the near future. The proposed visit would provide an opportunity to continue discussions and further identify practical areas of cooperation.
Ambassador Benevides expressed his appreciation to President Park and the leadership of Chung-Ang University for the warm reception. He expressed the hope that the discussions would contribute to further strengthening educational and institutional links between Timor-Leste and the Republic of Korea.

O encontro proporcionou uma oportunidade para ambas as partes trocarem pontos de vista sobre as perspetivas de reforço da cooperação entre Timor-Leste e a Universidade Chung-Ang, particularmente nas áreas do ensino superior e do desenvolvimento de recursos humanos.
Entre as questões abordadas esteve a possibilidade de estabelecer oportunidades de bolsas de estudo para estudantes timorenses que pretendam prosseguir estudos superiores na Universidade Chung-Ang. Estas oportunidades poderão contribuir para reforçar os intercâmbios educacionais e apoiar o desenvolvimento de recursos humanos qualificados em Timor-Leste.

As discussões abrangeram igualmente outras possíveis áreas de cooperação académica e institucional, incluindo oportunidades para promover intercâmbios e um maior envolvimento entre as instituições relevantes.
Neste contexto, o Embaixador António de Sá Benevides e o Presidente Park discutiram também a perspetiva de uma visita de uma delegação timorense de alto nível à Universidade Chung-Ang num futuro próximo. A visita proposta proporcionaria uma oportunidade para dar continuidade às discussões e identificar áreas concretas de cooperação.
