Ambassador of Timor-Leste Joins Timorese Community Mass in Hwaseong

His Excellency António de Sá Benevides, Ambassador of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste to the Republic of Korea, visited the Timorese migrant workers’ community in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, on Saturday, June 20, 2026. He participated in a special Mass celebration, standing in solidarity with the Timorese community.

The Mass, presided over by Fr. Olivio da Costa, SDB, was held to commemorate the 80th birthday anniversary of Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão. The event also served as a moment to honor the achievements of the local Timorese football and futsal teams, celebrating their recent success in the Gyeonggi Cup.

In his address, Ambassador Benevides underscored the importance of unity and discipline among the diaspora. "As representatives of our nation, our solidarity and mutual support are the pillars that uphold the dignity of Timor-Leste abroad," he emphasized.
